Free ATS resume checkers, compared

Most resume checkers are free to try, and most ask for the same two things first: an account, and a copy of your resume on their servers. Here is what seven of them say about themselves. Everything below is taken from each company’s own pages, checked on 19 September 2026. We make one of these tools, so we’ve linked every source for you to check.

• Sign-up: free scans need an account with a verified email. Its help center says: “To receive your free monthly scans, make sure your email is verified and you’re on the Free Membership plan.” (source)
• Free use: free scans are added monthly, and “unused scans roll over until you reach a maximum of 5 unused scans” (same source). Rescanning after an edit counts as a scan. (source)
• Good at: matching a resume against a specific job description, the feature it is known for. It can also identify which ATS an employer uses.

Resume Worded

• Sign-up: the scanner asks you to “create a free account to continue” and confirm your email address. (source)
• Your resume: stored on their servers and deleted on request: “please email us … and we’ll delete your information within 48 hours.” The policy also says “We do not sell your data or your information.” (source)
• Free use: “several free uploads”; the full report is part of the paid plan.
• Good at: feedback on writing quality, such as impact and brevity, and it shows you the text it extracted from your file.

SkillSyncer

• Sign-up: “Free account, no credit card required.” (source)
• Your resume: uploaded. Its site says: “We do not sell your resume to recruiters and we do not use it as training data. Delete a resume or your whole account and the file goes with it.” (source)
• Free use: two job match scans a week.
• Good at: keyword matching that weighs terms by how often the posting repeats them, and unusually plain privacy wording.

Rezi

• Sign-up: “checking your resume score with the resume checker requires a free Rezi account.” (source)
• Your resume: uploaded. Its policy says “We do not sell our users’ private personal information” and that data is deleted on request by email. (source)
• Free use: a score and a breakdown of issues are free; some scoring features are limited on the free plan.
• Good at: a full resume builder around the checker, and an option to have a person review your resume.

Resume.io

• Sign-up: the checker asks for an email address: “Please share your email address to continue.” (source)
• Your resume: uploaded as a PDF or Word file. Read its privacy policy for how resume data may be used.
• Free use: “the basic resume grader is completely free.”
• Good at: a polished resume builder and templates, with the checker feeding straight into editing.

TripleTen

• Sign-up: none. “Yes, with no account and no sign-up.” (source)
• Your resume: it says “Your resume is read in your browser and never uploaded.” We haven’t tested that claim. You can, with the offline test below.
• Free use: no stated limit. You paste your resume and a job listing as text. The tool is made by a coding bootcamp and promotes its courses.
• Good at: a quick keyword match against a posting, with refreshingly honest wording: “No checker can see inside a specific employer system, so no score is a prediction.”

Private Resume Check (this site)

• Sign-up: none. No account, no email, no cookies.
• Your resume: never uploaded. PDF and Word files are read in your browser, and the AI model that matches your resume to a job runs on your device. There are no analytics or third-party scripts. See the privacy page.
• Free use: unlimited.
• What it doesn’t do: build or rewrite your resume, review your LinkedIn profile, or offer human review. Job links load only from Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby; for other postings you paste the text.

How to verify a “nothing is uploaded” claim

Load the tool’s page, turn off Wi-Fi or switch to airplane mode, then check your resume. If you still get a full result, nothing was uploaded, because nothing could be. It works on this site. More in Is it safe to upload your resume?

Which should you use?

• If you want a builder, templates or human review, the account-based tools offer far more than a checker. Read the privacy policy, use a separate email address, and delete your data when you’re done.
• If you only want to know whether your resume is readable and matches a posting, you don’t need to hand it to anyone. Use a checker that runs in your browser.
• Whichever you choose, compare the specific problems each tool finds, not the scores. Every checker invents its own number.
