ATS Resume Checker for Software Engineers
Tech hiring runs on keyword filters: recruiters search the ATS for exact stack terms before reading a single bullet. Our free checker scores your engineering resume against the actual job posting, shows which keywords you're missing, and flags weak bullets — all on your own device, no sign-up.

How ATS screening works for software engineers
Engineering postings list a stack — languages, frameworks, cloud, tooling — and the ATS scores resumes on literal matches for those terms. "Kubernetes" in the posting and "K8s" on your resume is a miss to most parsers. Mirror the posting's exact spellings and acronyms.
Beyond keywords, engineering resumes are judged on quantified impact: latency reduced, uptime achieved, requests served, deploy time cut. Bullets without numbers read as responsibilities, not achievements — and responsibilities don't get interviews.
Keywords that matter on a software engineer resume
Use the exact wording below where it’s true of you. An ATS matches words literally, not by meaning.
| Keyword | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Python / Go / Java / TypeScript | Language names are the #1 recruiter search terms |
| AWS / GCP / Azure | Cloud platforms are hard filters at many companies |
| Docker / Kubernetes | Infrastructure keywords in most backend postings |
| REST APIs / GraphQL | API experience, spelled exactly as posted |
| CI/CD | Signals modern delivery practice |
| SQL / PostgreSQL | Data-layer keywords recruiters filter on |
| Microservices / distributed systems | Architecture terms for senior roles |
| Kafka / Spark / Airflow | Data-platform roles search these literally |
| Terraform | IaC keyword in platform/infra postings |
| Mentoring / technical leadership | The differentiator for senior+ levels |
Three fixes that raise a software engineer resume’s score
- Keep a Skills section with exact stack spellings. "TypeScript, React, Node.js, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL" — comma-separated, matching the posting's capitalization and acronyms.
- Rewrite every "responsible for" bullet. "Responsible for the API" → "Designed a REST API serving 10M requests/month at 99.99% uptime." Verb first, number always.
- Put metrics in 40%+ of bullets. Latency, throughput, uptime, cost saved, team size, users served — pick whichever you actually moved and state the before/after.
Questions
Should I include a GitHub link on my resume?
Yes, if it's active and presentable — put it in your contact header next to LinkedIn. The ATS won't score it, but the human who reads your resume after the screen absolutely clicks it.
How do I list technologies I only know a little?
Split your Skills section into "Proficient" and "Familiar." You'll still match the ATS keyword search, and you won't get burned in the interview when they probe the "familiar" ones.
