ATS Resume Checker for Business Analysts
Business analyst postings share a specific vocabulary: requirements, process mapping, user stories, UAT. Recruiters search the ATS for exactly those words. Our free checker scores your resume against the actual posting, shows which terms you're missing, and flags bullets that describe meetings instead of results. It runs on your own device, with no sign-up.

How ATS screening works for business analysts
The BA role sits between business and IT, and postings lean one way or the other. Process-heavy roles ask for process mapping, gap analysis and BPMN. Technical roles ask for SQL, user stories, APIs and UAT. The ATS scores you on the side the posting describes, so reorder your bullets and skills to lead with that side.
“Gathered requirements from stakeholders” appears on every BA resume. What did the requirements lead to? A system delivered, a process shortened, errors reduced, money saved. “Mapped the claims process and removed 5 of 14 steps, cutting handling time 30%” is the version that gets a call.
Keywords that matter on a business analyst resume
Use the exact wording below where it’s true of you. An ATS matches words literally, not by meaning.
| Keyword | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Requirements gathering / elicitation | The defining skill; use the posting's exact phrase |
| User stories / acceptance criteria | Expected in Agile environments |
| Process mapping / process improvement | With notation if relevant: BPMN, Visio, Lucidchart |
| SQL | Increasingly required; list it if you can query a database yourself |
| UAT / user acceptance testing | Write the acronym and the full phrase |
| Gap analysis | A literal phrase in many postings |
| Stakeholder management | How the job describes the people side |
| BRD / functional specifications | The documents you write, named the way they name them |
| Jira / Confluence | Tool matches for Agile teams |
| CBAP / Agile / Scrum | Certification and methodology filters |
Three fixes that raise a business analyst resume’s score
- Finish the sentence. Requirements gathered, and then? Add what was built and what it improved, with a number.
- Name the systems. “Salesforce implementation,” “SAP S/4HANA migration,” “claims platform.” System names are keywords, and they show domain knowledge.
- Show both of your languages. One bullet where you worked with executives or users, and one where you worked with developers or data. The job is translating between them.
Questions
Business analyst or data analyst: which resume do I send?
They're different searches. Business analyst postings stress requirements and process; data analyst postings stress SQL, dashboards and statistics. If you do both, keep two versions and lead each with the matching work.
Is CBAP certification worth listing?
Yes, if you have it. It's named in some postings and so works as a keyword. It's rarely required, though, and domain experience in the employer's industry usually counts for more.
