ATS Resume Checker for HR Managers
HR professionals run applicant tracking systems for a living, and still get screened out by them. Your application goes through the same parser and the same keyword search as anyone's. Our free checker scores your resume against the actual posting, shows which keywords you're missing, and flags bullets without outcomes. It runs on your own device, with no sign-up.
How ATS screening works for HR managers
HR postings are specific about scope: generalist or specialist, which HRIS, which laws, which certifications. “Employee relations,” “Workday,” “FMLA” and “SHRM-CP” are all literal searches. Write the full term and the acronym once each, since a recruiter may type either: “Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).”
HR work is measurable, and most HR resumes skip the measurements. Turnover, time to fill, engagement scores, headcount supported, cases resolved, cost per hire, training completion. “Managed recruiting” becomes “Cut average time to fill from 52 to 34 days across 120 hires a year.”
Keywords that matter on an HR manager resume
Use the exact wording below where it’s true of you. An ATS matches words literally, not by meaning.
| Keyword | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Employee relations | The core generalist skill and a literal search term |
| HRIS (Workday, ADP, BambooHR, UKG) | System names are hard filters |
| SHRM-CP / SHRM-SCP / PHR / SPHR | Certifications, written exactly as issued |
| Talent acquisition / recruiting | Name your ATS too: Greenhouse, Lever, iCIMS |
| Performance management | Review cycles, coaching, improvement plans |
| Compliance (FMLA, ADA, EEO, FLSA) | Law names and acronyms both get searched |
| Benefits administration / open enrollment | Expected in generalist postings |
| Onboarding / employee engagement | Lifecycle terms recruiters look for |
| Compensation / payroll | Include if in scope; often a filter at smaller companies |
| HR business partner / HRBP | Use the posting's form of the title |
Three fixes that raise an HR manager resume’s score
- State the population you supported. “HR lead for 450 employees across 3 states.” Headcount and geography show your level and your compliance range.
- Put numbers on people programs. Turnover reduced, engagement raised, time to fill shortened. You ask hiring managers for metrics; give them yours.
- Write certifications after your name. “Dana Ortiz, SHRM-CP.” It's one of the most common required filters in HR postings.
Questions
I screen resumes myself. Is an ATS really that literal?
You know your own system. Others vary, but most rank on keyword matches from the posting, and recruiters run Boolean searches on top of that. The checker shows which of a posting's terms your resume currently lacks.
How do I write about confidential employee relations work?
Describe volume and type without details: “Investigated and resolved about 40 employee relations cases a year, with no escalations to litigation.”
