Because the title is broad, recruiters rely on specific searches: the industry's terms (logistics, fulfillment, patient flow, production), the improvement method (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen) and the systems (SAP, a warehouse management system, an ERP). A general resume matches few of them. Rewrite yours in the vocabulary of the posting's industry.
Operations is a numbers job. Cost, throughput, on-time rate, quality, safety, headcount. A reader should see the size of the operation and what you improved: “Ran a 120-person, two-shift distribution center shipping 40k orders a day; cut cost per order 14% and raised on-time shipping from 93% to 98.5%.”

Three fixes that raise an operations manager resume’s score
- Describe the operation in one line per job. People, sites, volume, budget. “Managed 3 clinics, 65 staff and a $9M operating budget.”
- Use before-and-after numbers. Cost, cycle time, error rate, on-time delivery. The change is what gets you the interview.
- List your improvement credentials. “Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (2025).” Postings name the belts, so they work as keywords.

How do I switch industries as an operations manager?
Translate your results into the new industry's words and lead with what transfers: process improvement, team size, budget, vendor management. Include the new industry's key terms wherever your experience honestly touches them.
Is a Six Sigma belt necessary?
Only where the posting requires it. Where it's preferred, a documented improvement with real numbers carries the same weight, and most ATS rankings will still place you well on the other keywords.
